Featuring Patricia Kiyono, author

Patricia Kiyono lives in West Michigan, where she teaches music education and performs in community bands and orchestras. She and her husband enjoy living near their five children, nine grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Traveling and the many interesting people she meets inspire her sweet romances.

What is your primary or favorite genre to write? – Sweet historical romance

Do you have other genres you write for? – Sweet contemporary romance

Patricia Kiyono - Patty Gordon fav projectWhich project is your favorite so far?  Why? –  I enjoyed writing The Road to Escape because it was part of a multi-author series, so it was fun coordinating my story and characters with those of other authors.

How long have you been writing? – I started writing in earnest after I retired from full time teaching in 2005. But it took seven years to complete and submit that first book. The Samurai’s Garden was released in 2012.

Where is your favorite place to write? What kind of atmosphere do you need? Quiet, music, coffee, wine? Any tricks to get in the zone? – I’m most comfortable writing at the kitchen table, where it’s nice and sunny due to the skylights. If my husband has the TV on, I’ll put on my headphones and listen to classical instrumental Baroque music. I’ll usually have a cup of coffee or tea next to me. I teach in the afternoon, so my morning routine is coffee, exercise, breakfast, social media and promo, and then writing. I’ll usually write again in the evening unless I have a rehearsal.

What genres do you prefer to read? – Romance of almost any kind.

What’s your favorite book or movie? – Favorite book: anything by Rebecca Winters, especially her Nevada Bachelor series. Favorite movie: You’ve Got Mail. (I don’t get to the movies too often!)

What do you do for fun when you’re not writing? – sewing, crocheting, scrapbooking, and reading.

  1. Nice interview!.Patty, I had no idea that it took you seven years to complete The Samauri’s Garden. Now I don’t feel so bad about so much getting in my way with some of my projects.
Continued good luck and good writing to you!
